| Monir Hossain alias 'Golden Monir' was arrested in November 2020 |
The court acquitted Monir Hossain alias Golden Monir in the arms case. In the judgment, the court said, a police officer said that the weapons were licensed in the names of Monir and his wife. So keeping two illegal weapons in the name of himself and his wife while having another illegal weapon in the house is not normal and credible.
The court also said that the state party has completely failed to prove the fact that weapons were recovered from under the mattress of the bed in the bedroom of Monir Hossain's Badda house on November 20, 2020 at 6:30 am.
In a weapons case filed by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md. Asaduzzaman gave this judgment recently.
Tapas Kumar Pal, Additional Public Prosecutor of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court handling the case for the state, told Prothom Alo that the court acquitted Monir Hossain in the arms case. An appeal against the judgment will be subject to review after receiving the full judgment.
However, Monir's lawyer Dabir Uddin told Prothom Alo, "It has been proven in the judgment that a weapons case was filed against Monir for the purpose of harassing him."
Later, on May 11, 2022, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Police filed a case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act after receiving evidence of Monir's illegal assets and proceeds of crime. The investigation of this case is not over. Apart from this, the Special Powers Act and the case of acquisition of known non-income assets are at the stage of taking evidence.

After framing the complaint, 16 witnesses from the state were produced in the court.
The court acquitted Monir Hossain in the arms case. An appeal against the judgment will be subject to review after receiving the full judgment.
—Taaps Kumar Pal, Additional Public Prosecutor,
Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court, Dhaka
The court said that two of the 16 witnesses who testified in the court for the state are public witnesses. All others are policemen. Emad Uddin, public witness number 13 of the case, told the court that on November 20, 2020, RAB members called him while he was working in a drug store at around 10:30 pm. Later, he was kept in a room of Monir's house for the whole night. At midnight (3 pm) RAB officials signed a white paper. He was released at 10:30 am the next day. Mubarak Hossain, the 14th witness in the case, said in his deposition in the court that he was also called by RAB members and taken to Monir's house at around 10:30 pm. The members of RAB also signed the white paper from him.
According to the verdict, the public witness does not support the allegation that weapons and ammunition were recovered from the bedroom of Monir's house in the presence of Emad and Mubarak. Analyzing the evidence of the state's witnesses, it is proved that Monir's residence is not at 6:30 in the morning; The operation was conducted at 10:30 pm. A raid was conducted at Monir's house for a special purpose. The state's case is settled. The testimony given by other witnesses about the recovery of arms and bullets from Monir's bedroom is not at all credible.
According to the verdict, there is no record of forensic examination of the weapon recovered from Monir's house. Again the case is delayed for 19 hours and 15 minutes. The explanation for such a delay is not satisfactory.
According to the information of the verdict, Sub-Inspector (SI) Manik Chandra Roy, a witness in the case, told the court that Monir Hossain was arrested from the second floor of his house. Another witness SI Jamal Hossain and ASI Nazim Uddin said that Monir Hossain was arrested from the third floor of the house. That is, the testimonies of the witnesses are contradictory.
The court also mentioned that the investigating officer of the case, Inspector Abdul Malek, told the court that during the investigation, he came to know that Monir and his wife had two licensed weapons. That is, it is clear from Abdul Malek's testimony that Monir and his wife had two legal weapons in their names. The case of keeping another illegal weapon while having a legal one is not credible.
